EYFS

Starting school is a very special time in a child’s life, and at Caversham Park Primary School, we want every child to feel happy, safe, valued and excited to come to school each day. Our aim is to provide a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.

We recognise that every child is unique. Our small, friendly school community enables us to get to know each child well, understand their individual interests and needs, and provide the support and challenge they need to flourish.

In the Early Years, children learn through a carefully balanced combination of play, exploration, conversation and direct teaching. Our experienced staff provide experiences that develop children’s language, communication, early reading, writing and mathematical understanding, alongside their physical, creative, social and emotional development.

We place a strong emphasis on developing children’s independence, resilience and confidence. Children are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, try new things and learn from their experiences. We want our youngest children to become curious, enthusiastic learners who are ready to take on new challenges.

Our EYFS curriculum provides strong foundations for the rest of a child’s education. We carefully build on what children already know and can do, while ensuring that they develop the knowledge, skills and vocabulary they need for the next stage of their learning.

Most importantly, we want children to be happy and to enjoy coming to school. We want them to feel that they belong, that their ideas matter and that they are part of our caring school community from their very first day.
