Religious Education

We follow the Agreed Reading Syllabus for our teaching of Religious Education. In RE the children acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principle religions represented in Britain. They also develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures. We promote the development of a positive attitude towards other people, respecting their right to hold beliefs different from their own and towards living in a society of diverse religions. We also aim to enhance spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through the teaching of RE. In addition, we use personal accounts of our children’s faiths and visit to religious buildings to aid the children’s learning in religious education.

Parents and carers have a legal right under section 71(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to withdraw their children wholly or partly from school religious education (RE) lessons and collective worship. However, this is not something that we encourage in our school.

Our RE Subject Leader is Miss C. Long.
